How to style summer dresses is the topic for this journal post. It is slightly different from my usual ones as what I have done is taken five dresses from the current collection and showed you three different ways to style them using items that you may well have in your wardrobe already. In the back of my head I have been thinking one for holiday, one for home and one for going out in so hopefully when you see the outfits you will get the same vibe!
As the world changes (not just because of the inevitable consequences of Coronavirus) but also because of concerns re climate change and the need for a more sustainable lifestyle it becomes increasingly important that our clothes really work for us and have longevity. To me this is one of the things I enjoy most about clothing and fashion – trying to see how many uses I can get out of an outfit and how many different ways I can style it.
So read below to see my suggestions on how to style summer dresses and let me know what you think!
Dinah Maxi Dress £206, Ibiza Wedge Mule £94
This gorgeous maxi dress from M.A.B.E Apparel (formerly Star Mela) is an absolute show stopper. The array of beautifully curated colours, combined with the stunning floral design and bold border print are both eye-catching and pretty. The empire line bodice can be adjusted with the two ochre drawstrings at either side of the bust which come with pretty little silver bells at their ends…

Ink Sami Dress £129, Oatmeal Cashmere Wrap £88, Elektra Gold Flower Necklace £65, Stepped Gold Hoops £110
This One Season dress above comes in a universally flattering dress shape which was a best seller for us last year. The short sleeves and the v neck combined with the option to tie it at the waist are all popular features in a summer dress. The style is mid calf length and has slits up either side. Gold and black is a great colour combination and would look great dressed over a swimsuit, styled with a cosy cashmere wrap or a fitted jacket for drinks and dinner…

This Place du Soleil pink maxi dress is simply stunning. It is fully lined so ideal for wearing in the UK and comes with a full length sleeve that is trimmed with pretty neon pink stitching. The bodice is tied with a bright orange drawstring that is finished with bright pink tassels bound in gold. Dress down with trainers and a denim jacket or dress up for a special occasion.

Gold Jasmine Shirt Dress £149, Leopard Diamond Silk Scarf £40, Denim Jacket £67, Large Gold Happy Earrings £102, Ibiza Wedge Mule £94
This One Season shirt dress above features a flattering shape with a low slung shoulder detail and a drawstring at the waist that can be adjusted to style as you see fit. The short sleeves are finished with a pretty frill detail and there are two side pockets which give off a more casual vibe. Style over swimwear or out to lunch with trainers and a denim jacket or dressed up for the evening with sandals or wedges and jewellery.
If you like the shape of this dress so do we! It is available in two other patterned colour ways which you can view if you click on the One Season link above. To see more images of the Jasmine Gold Dress click here.
Green Heron Dress £86, Jellyfish Sarong £81, Goa Suede Saddle Bag £135, Lora White and Gold Trainers £99
And for this last one this dress by Australian brand Lula Soul is super comfortable and really easy to wear. The Oriental-style print features black and white herons flying across a vibrantly coloured jade green background. The style is relaxed and free flowing with a gathering of small pleats from the bottom of the v-neck and loose, floaty sleeves that cover the upper arm. There are two pockets set into the side seams and the hem has a cut-out detail embroidered in a raspberry red thread. Ideal for both holidays and hot days or evenings at home, it can be dressed up with heels or down with sandals or pumps.
To keep things simple everything featured in the above squares is either from Cleverly Wrapped or from the current collection on the John Lewis website. Where the items are from Cleverly Wrapped I have put the prices below the squares. Hope this makes sense!
Hopefully that was some inspiration for you on how to style summer dresses. I imagine many of you will have gone through your wardrobes during the lock down so now is a good time to really look at what’s in there and see what you might need to make things work harder for you.
Stay safe and keep well.
